The HALO Trust is the world’s oldest and largest humanitarian mine action organisation with 10,000 staff in 30 countries and territories. We lead the effort to protect lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. We remove landmines and make safe other weapons such as cluster bombs, stockpiles of small arms and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Since the beginning of operations in Ukraine in early 2016, HALO has grown into the largest international mine action operator in the country.
HALO currently employs approximately 1600 national staff across the Kyiv oblast, conducting survey and marking of hazardous areas, risk education, and clearance operations. HALO in Ukraine is going through a period of large expansion and scaling up its operations across Ukraine, both in terms of geographical locations and staff numbers.
JOB TITLE: Agricultural Research and Data Specialist
LOCATION: Brovary Kyiv region
The HALO Trust is expanding its efforts to support the recovery of agricultural land in Ukraine impacted by conflict. With significant damage to the agricultural sector, there is a critical need for coordinated recovery and sustainable land management. The Agricultural Research and Data Specialist will play a key role in facilitating these efforts, ensuring accurate data collection, supporting research partnerships, and contributing to the return of agricultural land to productive use.
The Agricultural Research and Data Specialist is responsible for managing comprehensive soil evaluation datasets collected from the field. The Specialist supports research efforts by ensuring accurate, organized, and secure data to guide soil assessments, plant tissues and strategies for restoring agricultural land to production. This role works closely with partners, to ensure data quality, support joint research, and contribute to practical tools and recommendations for farmers in post-conflict areas.
The Agricultural Research and Data Specialist manages the collection, security, and analysis of data from, ensuring data integrity and supporting collaboration with research partners. The role includes maintaining and securing the data, implementing quality control, and providing technical support for data collection and reporting. The Specialist contributes to research initiatives and helps translate findings into practical guidance for farmers and stakeholders working to restore agricultural productivity.
Responsibilities:
Data Management:
Maintain and update soil evaluation data, ensuring accuracy of data collected and laboratory testing.
Field Data Support:
Assist field teams with organizing, processing, and uploading data, including GPS coordinates, sample identifiers, and analytical results.
Collaboration with Partners:
Coordinate with partners such as Sumy National Agrarian University, Kyiv School of Economics and laboratories to align data formats, methodologies, and support joint research objectives.
Quality Control:
Perform regular data reviews to identify and resolve inconsistencies or gaps, ensuring high-quality datasets.
Data Security:
Protect sensitive data, including location-specific information and proprietary research, in compliance with organizational data protection standards.
Reporting and Analysis:
Assist with reports, summaries, and dashboards to share soil evaluation findings with internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders.
Technical Support:
Assist in development and guidance on data collection protocols and digital record management.
Knowledge Sharing:
Contribute to the development of farmer resources, such as guides and dashboards, translating research into practical recommendations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Management, Environmental Science, Geography, Geoinformatics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience in managing large datasets, including data collection, cleaning, storage, and analysis.
- Familiarity with field-based data collection processes, preferably in environmental, agricultural, or post-conflict contexts.
- Experience working with MC Office (GIS tools, GPS data, and digital mapping is an advantage).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners, including academic institutions, commercial laboratories and field teams.
- Strong communication skills in English and Ukrainian.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in dynamic environments.
Terms and Conditions:
- Labour law contract (24 days of annual leave, paid sick leave) — 12-month contract, with possibility with extension based on performance and project needs.
- Salary — 84 887,00 hrn .
- Daily allowance 800 UAH paid during business trips (business trips are provided).
- Work schedule — 5/2 (8:00 — 17:00, one-hour lunchbreak (40 working hours per week).
- Medical and life insurance.
- Basic psychosocial assistance.
- Provision of all necessary material stuff and equipment.
- Shuttle bus from Lisova metro station (Kyiv) and around Brovary.
- Assistance at the childbirth (Baby Box) and in enrolling a child in the 1st grade (1st Grader Set)
- Military exemption (80% of the staff).
