We are looking for a talented Mathematician to join our team and bring fresh ideas and first-class numerical expertise.
Key Skills & Qualifications
1. Core Mathematical Expertise
- Deep knowledge of partial differential equations (PDEs), especially Maxwell’s equations
Strong command of numerical techniques, including:
- Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) — essential
- Finite Element Method (FEM) — nice to have
- Spectral schemes and advanced interpolation
2. Computational Electromagnetics
Hands-on experience building and analysing FDTD models
- Courant stability analysis
- Boundary conditions: PML, Mur, periodic, etc.
- Dispersion and numerical-anisotropy reduction
- Proven track record simulating antenna structures and microwave wave-propagation problems
3. Transformation Optics & QCTO Lens Design
- Working knowledge of transformation-optics theory and conformal mappings
Practical experience with Quasi-Conformal Transformation Optics (QCTO):
- Grid generation and mesh quality control
- Refractive-index mapping
- Anisotropic/gradient-index materials and effective-medium models
4. Programming & Simulation Tools
Proficiency in at least one scientific-computing stack:
- Python (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib/Mayavi)
- MATLAB (rapid FDTD prototyping)
- C/C++ (high-performance kernels)
- Bonus points for familiarity with EM solvers such as Meep, CST Studio Suite, COMSOL Multiphysics
5. Data Analysis & Visualisation
- Ability to extract and interpret performance metrics (gain, bandwidth, scattering, Q-factor, etc.)
- Skilled in visualising 2-D/3-D field distributions, index maps and geometry evolution
6. Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Comfortable working alongside physicists, RF engineers and optical designers
- Able to adapt theoretical methods to experimental and fabrication constraints (e.g. 3-D printing, metamaterials)
7. Communication & Documentation
- English language skills at B1 level or higher — able to read technical documentation and communicate effectively with the team.
- Clear, concise documentation of models, assumptions and simulation workflows
- Competence in preparing scientific papers, internal reports and conference material
Preferred Education & Background
- PhD (or strong MSc) in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Prior experience in electromagnetic modelling, antenna design or lens synthesis is highly desirable
