Technical Operations Lead — Ukraine | CAFA Tech
Position Overview
CAFA Tech, an Estonian company specializing in high-voltage DC tethered UAV systems for defense applications, seeks a hands-on technical specialist to establish and lead our Ukrainian operations. This founding team member will build our technical support, assembly, and service capabilities while developing relationships with Ukrainian Armed Forces units. The role combines deep drone expertise with business development and team building responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Operations
- Provide 2nd line technical support for tethered UAV systems deployed with military units
- Troubleshoot and repair high-voltage DC power systems, fiber optic data cables, and drone integration issues
- Train military personnel on system operation, maintenance, and 1st line support
- Develop technical documentation in Ukrainian and English
- Implement quality control and testing procedures for field deployments

Business Development & Military Relations
- Build relationships with Ukrainian Armed Forces technical and procurement teams
- Coordinate field demonstrations and system trials with military units
- Support procurement processes with technical expertise and documentation
- Gather field feedback for product improvements and adaptations

Team Building & Growth
- Recruit and train local technical team for assembly, support, and repairs
- Establish service center and spare parts management in Lviv
- Build network of field service technicians across deployment regions
- Develop technical training programs for military operators

Product Development Support
- Provide field feedback to Estonian R&D team
- Implement modifications for Ukrainian operational requirements
- Test and validate new features in field conditions
- Support codification and certification processes

Required Qualifications
Essential Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with UAV/drone systems (assembly, repair, maintenance)
- Experience with electrical systems (high voltage DC preferred)
- Understanding of flight controllers, ESCs, power distribution systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair electronic/electrical faults
- Experience with 7"-15» commercial or military drones

Professional Requirements
- Military service or experience working with armed forces
- Conversational English (B1 minimum, B2 preferred)
- Ukrainian language fluency
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel 40−50% (including frontline regions)
- Ability to obtain security clearances
- Experience training technical personnel

Highly Desired
- FPV drone building/racing community involvement
- Experience with fiber optic systems
- Knowledge of ISR, communications relay, or EW applications
- Previous experience in technical support or field service roles
- Basic understanding of defense procurement processes

Location
